Technical Account Manager
Vivi joined Brompton in September 2018 as a field application engineer. She came from the LCD TFT industry and recalls, “It’s a small world because the previous company I worked for became Brompton’s client.” She was initially approached by an employment agency when on a working holiday in the UK and was told about a company called SixEye that was looking for someone to fulfil a technical role who could also speak Mandarin. SixEye is among several companies that were originally founded as part of the Carallon group, including Brompton Technology, and it was eventually Brompton that Vivi joined. She says, “I thought it was a good opportunity and felt very lucky to find this job.” It’s important to Vivi that she’s able to share her thoughts and ideas, which is one of the things she particularly enjoys about the Brompton culture, adding, “Everyone is very friendly and we’re more like equals, so even with managers I can speak freely.”
Last year, with the growth of Brompton’s APAC operations, Vivi’s role changed, and she was promoted to Technical Account Manager. She now works closely with end clients, mainly those operating studios, who she’ll support on site or remotely. Since the easing of travel restrictions, Vivi has enjoyed travelling to Japan and Korea and other APAC regions to conduct training. In addition to the travel that comes with her role, Vivi relishes the way she’s constantly broadening her knowledge. She’s excited about the many new technologies emerging for broadcast and film studios and says many of the studios in the APAC region don’t have a grasp on it all yet, adding, “It’s also new for me and I’m willing to learn. Studios use many different technologies and there’s a lot going on, so it’s very interesting.”
Not only is Vivi eager to learn, but she also seems to absorb new technologies effortlessly. She’s gained a great deal of camera, tracking and media server knowledge in the course of supporting panel manufacturers and studios alike, to the point that she has played a key role in the launch of several new studios. It’s part of her goal over the next couple of years, which is to expand her knowledge about the whole virtual production workflow. Capably changing hats, Vivi will help clients with the integration of panels with Brompton, and then help them test cameras and point out artefacts. She enjoys sharing her knowledge too and has a knack for explaining to others, so the training she conducts has become very valued among users and customers alike.
With her keen interest in studios, it’s not surprising that in her time off Vivi enjoys watching movies. She also loves travel and she’ll spend hours walking in new cities absorbing the sights and sounds around her. Vivi is always happy visiting Brompton’s London offices and says being in the same time zone has advantages, especially when new features or technologies are being launched. Being in the thick of it is a great way for her to do what she loves to do best: learn everything there is to know.
