    Tessera Processor Software 3.0.6

    18th 2月 2021
    3.0.6 Issue A
    Processor Firmware
    Tessera Remote
    Tessera Control

    Compatibility Note

Tessera HD processors (M2, T1 and S4) must be running processor firmware V2.3.2 or later prior to upgrading to V3.0.1 or later.

    M2/T1/S4 upgrade warning

Tessera HD processors (M2, T1 and S4) must be running processor firmware V2.3.2 or later prior to upgrading to V3.0.1 or later, or the upgrade will fail requiring a SD card restore.

    Tessera S8 Compatibility

The Tessera S8 processor requires software version 3.0 or later.

    Dynamic Calibration

Dynamic Calibration achieves higher brightness, outstanding uniformity, precise colour accuracy and intense colour saturation.New or existing R2-based panels must be measured using the Hydra system to enable them to use Dynamic Calibration. The appropriate calibration bank (containing the Dynamic Calibration) must then be selected on the processor to enable Dynamic Calibration. The DynaCal screen is available on all Brompton processors and can be accessed from the video input properties or the output colour properties. The Video Input Colour Space options inform the system as to how to ‘interpret’ incoming HDMI and SDI video signals. In the case of HDMI, this information can be set automatically based on information received from the source device (InfoFrames). The Panel Output Colour Space options should typically be left at the default of ‘Match Input’ for optimal performance, unless there is a need for multiple panel types with different LEDs to all be limited to a commonly-achievable range of colours.Screen brightness may optionally be over-driven from the DynaCal UI or the main processor screen brightness UI. This increases the target brightness for the panels, but will increase the likelihood of bright content exceeding the capabilities of the LEDs and so being ‘clipped’, resulting in a brighter but somewhat ‘over-exposed’ look.Changes made in the DynaCal UI are immediately reflected on the panels in real time. For additional feedback, zebra patterns may be enabled to visually identify over-bright or out-of-gamut pixels on the screen.Dynamic Calibration is required for HDR, PureTone and ThermaCal

The Tessera SX40 and S8 LED processors are now capable of receiving HDR video via HDMI or SDI, and displaying it on panels that have been calibrated using Dynamic Calibration. Both PQ (ST.2084) and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) are supported, as are all industry standard colour spaces such as Rec.2020, DCI-P3 and Rec.709, as well as custom user-specified colour spaces. The Tessera SX40 and S8 LED processors accept HDR video input at up to 12 bits per colour, and can automatically detect the input signal properties via Info Frames on the HDMI 2.0 port. All received metadata about the HDR source is visible from the input source properties.Additional controls are available within the input source properties to override various aspects of the video signal, should these be missing or incorrectly set by the source device.By default, absolute PQ video brightness levels will be remapped to the panels’ achievable brightness range if this exceeds the MaxCLL specified for the content, ensuring optimal display of HDR video ‘out of the box’. This behaviour can be overridden to ensure technically accurate luminance levels by disabling ‘PQ Auto Brighten’.HDR requires Dynamic Calibration to operate. Sending HDR video to panels that are not using Dynamic Calibration (either because they haven’t been measured using Hydra, or because the wrong calibration bank is selected) will result in no video output (black) from the panels.

PureTone improves greyscale performance and colour accuracy on panels with non-linear LED or driver chip output. Each panel type must be measured by Brompton Technology to generate a PureTone profile. To enable PureTone on panels which have been profiled, Dynamic Calibration must be enabled and the PureTone option enabled in the Global Colour properties.PureTone will not affect panels when using legacy calibration or when running uncalibrated.

ThermaCal reduces visual artefacts related to LED thermal sensitivity, such as pink/cyan patterning when panels are warm. Each panel type must be measured by Brompton Technology to generate a ThermaCal profile.ThermaCal is enabled and adjusted within the panel properties. The amount of correction may be adjusted to suit the environment in which the panels are operating by moving the slider until the best uniformity is observed on the screen. Depending on the panels, video content and operating environment, It may be necessary to adjust this setting from time to time for optimal performance.

    Fade to Black

The SX40 and S8’s blackout function now optionally fades smoothly in and out of black. The fade time may be adjusted between zero (snap) and 10 seconds by single-clicking the blackout button to display the properties and specifying the desired value.

    Known Issues

    Version compatibility

In order to use V3.0.1, it is necessary to run all elements of the system (processor, XDs and panels) on V2.3.1 or later. For panels where V2.3 firmware is not available please continue using V2.2 processor firmware.

Restore factory defaults/format SD card can cause fixture library instability

If you perform either of these operations please reboot your processor before browsing to the fixture library window as this may otherwise be unstable.

Settings from Tessera Control are not applied to newly discovered fixtures

If using Tessera Control to alter Brightness, Temperature or Gamma, these settings are not sent to newly discovered fixtures until a change is made to the value

Tessera Remote and Tessera Control may not work on Mac OSX El Capitan

When running on a Mac OSX El Capitan the Tessera Remote and Tessera Control applications can fail to detect network ports. This appears to be limited to cases where no default gateway is specified on the computer’s network interface. In situations where no default gateway is set using DHCP, we recommend specifying a default gateway manually. PCs running Windows and Macs running OSX Yosemite or earlier are not affected.

Tessera Remote may fail to import project files

In some cases Tessera Remote may fail to import project files from local storage. As a workaround create the project from scratch, or use a local monitor, keyboard and mouse to import the project file before connecting with Tessera Remote.

Some input devices on KVM switches do not work

We have had reports that trackpads may not function correctly when connected to the processor via a KVM switch. As a workaround we recommend using a mouse, or connecting input devices directly to the processor’s USB ports.

Monitors connected via DisplayPort-to-VGA adapters may be unstable

Local user interface monitors connected to the processor via certain active DisplayPort-to-VGA adapters may give an unstable image or the monitor is not detected at all. As a workaround we recommend using a DVI or DisplayPort monitor.
