Dark Magic improves the quality of the image or video showing on LED panels when they are operating at less than maximum brightness.
LED panels are usually designed to be used at maximum brightness in high ambient lighting conditions. When they’re used indoors and ‘on-camera’ at lower brightness, it can result in an unavoidable reduction in effective bit depth, leading to visible artefacts like banding and loss of detail, especially in dark areas of the image.
Dark Magic helps to alleviate these issues by processing the video signal at up to 26 bits per channel (78 bits per pixel) within the Tessera R2 and R2+ receiver card.
The effective bit depth of the output can then be increased, resulting in a clearer, smoother image with enhanced detail in darker areas, even when the LED panels are at very low brightness.
Studio Mode is one of several different modes you can select from the Operating Modes menu and allows LED panels to be run at a lower maximum brightness without a loss of bit-depth.
Dark Magic and Studio Mode can be combined to achieve the best possible low-brightness performance with compatible LED panels and together offer high image quality with smooth gradients and colour transitions.
Brompton’s first 4K processor and the best LED processor currently available on the market. Used with the XD Data Distribution Unit to provide a comprehensive solution for 4K screens.
A mid-range processor perfect for high-profile projects that don’t require large output capacity but want the full suite of Tessera processing features.
A straightforward powerhouse processor built for large, high resolution LED screens, offering fewer creative features for competitive value.
Designed for creativity, an ideal choice for smaller creative shows and displays that don’t need to output a huge amount of pixels.
