Project Overview:

At Walmart’s new 350-acre Home Office campus in Bentonville, Arkansas, a state-of-the-art broadcast studio has been established within the Sam Walton Hall, a 200,000-square-foot facility. The TV Studio is designed to support the fast-paced demands of modern retail communications, from internal leadership addresses to external shareholder communications.

Powered by Brompton Tessera LED video processors, this corporate broadcast facility delivers consistent performance, precise camera integration, and absolute colour accuracy to meet the daily demands of one of the world’s largest retailers.

The Challenge:

Walmart’s broadcast team needed to create a studio that could keep pace with “the speed of retail,” where content moves at the same rapid tempo as news media. The challenge extended beyond aesthetic appeal; the studio required technology capable of delivering broadcast-grade colour accuracy essential for maintaining brand identity, seamless integration with professional camera systems to ensure optimal on-camera performance, and reliable daily operation to support Walmart’s continuous communication needs across internal and external channels.

The Solution

To create a high-performance broadcast environment that meets the demanding pace of corporate retail communications, Walmart implemented:

  • 10m by 4m curved LED wall: Featuring 160 Alfalite ModularPix Pro 1.5 ORIM panels delivering 6400 by 2560 pixel resolution, creating an impressive visual backdrop for all studio productions.
  • Brompton Tessera SX40 4K LED processors: Four processors were deployed to drive the LED wall, paired with eight Tessera XD 10G data distribution units.
  • Advanced camera integration: Genlock synchronisation capability aligning the LED wall perfectly with the studio’s camera systems for optimal on-camera performance.
  • Expert support: Hands-on training and technical support from Brompton’s team ensured smooth implementation and operational confidence.

Brompton Features Used

  • OSCA (On Screen Colour Adjustment): Ensures seamless tile-to-tile colour and brightness uniformity across the expansive LED surface, eliminating visible seams or colour artifacts with fast, intuitive on-screen adjustment.
  • Genlock: Synchronises the LED refresh with camera shutters, minimising scan-line artifacts and improving on-camera performance offering reliability and flexibility to camera operators
  • ChromaTune: Enables fine-tuned adjustment of individual colour vectors, allowing precise control for accurate brand representation and on-camera colour performance.
Technical Challenges:

A primary challenge was achieving broadcast-grade colour accuracy essential for corporate branding and marketing purposes. With executives regularly appearing in front of the LED wall, maintaining visual consistency played a direct role in preserving brand identity across all communications.

The system needed to deliver reliable daily performance to support Walmart’s continuous communication demands, operating at the rapid pace of retail where “what was great and new today is old news tomorrow.”

Outcome

The successful integration of Brompton LED video processing has created a broadcast facility that meets the demanding pace of modern corporate communications. The studio has become a core tool in Walmart’s evolving communication strategy, designed to keep up with the relentless rhythm of retail.

The implementation has provided Walmart’s broadcast team with the confidence and capability to produce content that maintains brand consistency and visual excellence. The system’s reliability and ease of operation have enabled the team to focus on storytelling rather than technical troubleshooting.

At Walmart, it’s like the news media. We’re moving at the pace of retail. What was great and new today is old news tomorrow. You really want your colour reproduction to be accurate. Branding, marketing, it’s all very important. What I love about the Brompton LED processors is that you can even go in there and pick one particular colour and not affect the white level of the wall, and you can get that colour exactly right to accurately tell the story you want to.

OSCA makes sure that from tile-to-tile you don’t see any blending problems or artifacts. I love how quickly you can do it. You can edge blend with the click of a mouse.
